History Humpday

Sorry I have missed a few “History Humpdays” but we’re back in business now with...

The Corbusier Chaise Lounge!

This chair most definitely deserves a spot among the great Mid Century Iconic Chairs. Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris (aka Le Corbusier) designed the lounge in 1927. The chair is hand built in Italy; it is constructed from a tubular steel frame and a black steel base. The seat itself is upholstered in leather or pony hair and supported by 57 spring bands. The function and movement of this chair is what sets it apart. The metal tubes can slide along the frame to create varied seating on lounging positions. It has apparently been renamed the Psychiatrist’s Therapy Chair since it allows for the body’s most heightened relaxation. Looks Comfy!

Trip to Kauai

We just got home from a great, wet and rainy trip to Kauai. The island is a soggy beauty at this time of year and we enjoyed the lush views, SUP boarding in the waves and early morning bluff runs followed by delicious coffee.
Every morning started with a run up the sandy bluffs of Poipu beach. From up there you can see the sun rise, turtles getting tossed in the surf and usually a few humpbacks breaching with their calves. This was one of my favourite times of day there; it was tranquil and quiet yet full of life.
Most days would then be followed by enjoying some Kauai Coffee at a local shop or at the Hyatt. We had a chance to visit the Kauai Coffee Plantation and sample all the different roasts, yumm. When the sun tried to poke through the clouds we would enjoy the beach and the waves on stand-up paddle boards. Being treated to a bamboo massage at the spa was a definite treat on this trip but the main highlight was the helicopter ride.
The sun decided to come out that day so the mix of sun and cloud made for some cool pictures from our tiny little copter!! The Na’pali Coast, Waimea Canyon, and the lowlands of Kauai were spectacular!
Ahhh, I feel refreshed!
